What happens when a team is not aligned and what to do about it

Lead

According to recent Knightsbridge study, a team without alignment:

  • squanders energy and provides little value to the organization and customer
  • can't prioritize, and therefore wastes time and resources trying to do too much

You probably intuitively already know this, but may struggle with what to do next as a leader.

Team alignment is created by the team:

  • create the team mandate and link it to the organization strategy
  • conduct a future environmental scan to mitigate or leverage external trends
  • develop measures to show progress towards the mandate
  • review the current team & organization situation
  • create strategies and actions based upon the realities of today so that the team can prioritize and add value
  • monitor the strategies and actions and update them based upon results and what is happening outside of the team
  • reward and celebrate

Once alignment is achieved and your team is working well together you can step back and lead from behind.
