Communicate

Recently I met with a leadership team to discuss Strategic Thinking. Many of the leaders admitted they did not ask for feedback, some were honest enough to say they had a fear of feedback.

We discussed three ways to lose their fear of feedback:

  1. Fear of feedback is normal - many people share your fears. Admit you are uncomfortable with asking for feedback.

  2. In order to think strategically we need feedback - we need the complete story in order to make good strategic decisions. Realize that asking for feedback will make you a better leader.

  3. Some people don't handle feedback very well and you can learn how to be better at it. Asking for and receiving feedback is a skill that can be improved through coaching and training.

If you have a fear of feedback, there are ways to lose that fear. It is up to you!
