Are you finding resistance to your ideas? Are people not implementing the strategic plan? Are people still doing it the "old way"?
At The Haines Centre for Strategic Management we believe that "People support what they help create." This means that instead of scripting the communication or creating the plan and then "unleashing" it upon your people, GET PEOPLE INVOLVED.
Getting people involved in solving the problem or the drafting of the strategic plan, is the best way to reduce resistance when you communicate.
You can get people involved in two main ways:
include representatives from different levels of the organization and key stakeholders on the creation team
ask for feedback on the draft version of the communication or plan & take that feedback into consideration
I have worked with many organizations who thought that getting more people involved was a sure way to fail. Instead, they learned that by involving more people up front it takes more time in the planning, but that there is considerably less time spent in the execution because the resistance is virtually gone.
Who should you be including before your next communication?
