During organizational change I remind the leadership team of the "marathon effect."
During large races the fast runners start the race first and often complete the race before the "Sunday runners" get to the starting line.
The leadership team starts the marathon of change first - they were in the discussions and made the decisions.
Many employees do not know about the change until the official announcement is made and then they have to individually go thru the stages of the change process.
The leaders must remember that just because they have gone thru the psychological process associated with the organizational change, doesn't mean that everyone else has done so at the same speed.
Everyone runs the change race at different speeds.
Remember the marathon effect in your organization when you are in the midst of large organizational change.
