Loss during change

Change

No matter if the change is large or small, people experience a sense of loss during any change.

Some of these losses include:

  • loss of control
  • loss of relationships
  • loss of professional identity
  • loss of autonomy
  • loss of expertise
  • loss of meaning

As a leader, it is your job to understand that each person experiences change as an individual.

Therefore, their perceived losses will be different from yours and everyone else's on the team. let go of these feelings of loss thru helping them reframe the situation, release their sense of loss, or rebuild some of the things that were lost.

Your staff will continue to resist change if they do not reframe, release or rebuild.

Resistance can be subconscious, subtle, passive or "in your face," but if you do not deal with the sense of loss the resistance will remain.

Want some help dealing with resistance? Want to understand losses better?
