How to Treat Employees so They Don't Want to Leave

Richard Branson, of Virgin, says "Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don't want to." There are two important parts in this quote: training and treating.

Training

• Are you continually developing your staff?

• Are you giving them challenges?

• Are you investing in the future of your organization by giving them on-the-job training, workshops and coaching to learn new skills and fine tune existing ones?

Employees who are learning are more productive, plus more likely to stay with you.

Treating

• How are you showing your employees that you value them as individuals?

• Are you asking for their opinions?

• Are you showing them respect?

• How are they recognized for accomplishments?

• Have you created an environment where they feel comfortable to disagree, make mistakes & bring their full selves to work?

Employees who feel valued and respected don't want to leave.
