In the TED talk, "Dare to Disagree," Margaret Heffernan gives examples of where conflict, when managed corrected causes superior results. This is not the usual way that people react to conflict.
How can you learn to harness conflict?
Hire people different from ourselves - which is not our natural tendency
Teach people how to manage conflict - get good at conflict, debate & argument
Have courage to speak up - open up possible conflict
Think together - see conflict as a way of thinking, as a way of coming up with a better solution
Expect conflict - if things are running too smoothly, go in search of conflict
