We are in the midst of a pandemic – few of us have experienced anything like this.
Some of us are working from home – some of us feel like we are stuck at home.
But we must remember not to put too much pressure on ourselves during these trying times.
We think intellectually that we’ll be more productive – face it, we have less interruptions. We should be able to get more things accomplished than before.
But realistically we will be less productive. This is because worrying about our jobs and our health takes energy and time. We have less psychological energy to do everything we thought we could do.
We are experiencing collective trauma – brought on by worry and fear.
At this time, we need to be more compassionate with ourselves. To give ourselves a little extra time to complete tasks. To let ourselves binge-watch Netflix. To accept the multiple emotions we are feeling.
We are in the middle, and we don’t know when it will end. This time of uncertainty drains energy, so please be kinder to yourself and others. Lower your expectations of yourself and your team.
Check in with yourself and others – about we are feeling and coping. A text, email or call will go a long way!
We will get through this. We just don’t know when, so be gentler and compassionate with everyone. We’re all trying the best we can.
The Rollercoaster of Change helps to explain what people are feeling and what you should be doing. I’d love to talk about the Rollercoaster of Change, Valerie.MacLeod@HainesCentre.com
