Working for a great leader is one of the best experiences of my career. So you've decided to be a leader. This is big step. Congrats on making the decision to "step up." Here’s to prepare yourself to be a great leader:
Learn from effective leaders – Watch and read about successful leaders. What are they doing that you can adopt? What errors did they make? What advice do they have?
Find a mentor – Join up with someone who is an excellent leader. Meet with them to discuss areas of improvement, what you can do to move ahead, and get feedback on things you’ve tried.
Address your leadership gaps – By watching, reading about, and talking to successful leaders you can determine areas to address. Take courses, volunteer for new projects, and volunteer outside of work to develop required skills.
I coach new and potential leaders. Contact me at Valerie.MacLeod@HainesCentre.com if you want to "up" your leadership skills.
